The Boys See Everything

I want you to picture this scene. Two young boys, Navid and Kumar, walking through their own home on what should have been an ordinary afternoon. They hear sounds coming from their father’s bedroom. Being curious children, they investigate. And what they find is their stepmother Hem and their father’s ex-wife Tiffany in bed together. In their father’s bed. I need you to sit with that for a moment.

The shock alone should have been enough to make any parent stop and reassess everything. But that is not what happened. Junior walked in and found the situation already in progress. And instead of reacting like a man whose house has been turned upside down, he asked to join. He literally told his sons to leave the room so he could participate. I am not making this up. This is what happened.

Kumar walked away. He was upset. Disgusted maybe. Confused definitely. Here was his father, the man supposed to set an example, treating the destruction of his children’s innocence like a casual Tuesday activity. Kumar internalized that. He carried it with him. You could see it in the way he moved after that day. Quieter. More distant. Like something inside him had been switched off permanently.

Navid on the other hand, the one who already had confused feelings about Tiffany, reacted differently. He did not walk away angry. He lingered. He processed it through his already warped lens. And that is how you create cycles of dysfunction. Not through one big event, but through a series of moments where nobody protects the child.

Fifteen minutes. That is how long Junior spent in that room. Fifteen minutes that rewired his sons’ understanding of everything. Respect, boundaries, family, love. All of it scrambled in a quarter of an hour. And nobody in that house thought maybe we should talk about this. Maybe we should get these boys some help. No. They just carried on.
