Stacy’s Mom Comes Knocking

So after everything blew up in that house, you would think the drama would stay contained. But drama never stays contained. It leaks. It seeps through walls and fences and travels down streets until it reaches people who have no business being involved. That is exactly what happened when Stacy’s mom decided to come over.

Stacy was the neighbor from down the street. Just a girl. Her mother was one of those women who always seemed to know everybody’s business but pretended she did not. She showed up at Junior’s door with some excuse about a package or a fence or something equally forgettable. But the real reason was curiosity. She had heard things. Maybe from Stacy. Maybe from the walls themselves.

Tiffany and Hem were still there when she arrived. And both women, for all their recklessness, had enough sense to know that this was a boundary that needed holding. They warned her. Not politely. Not subtly. They made it crystal clear that whatever was happening in that house was not something Stacy or her mother needed to be part of. And to their credit, they were firm about it.

The boys too. Navid and Kumar had already been through enough. They did not need Stacy’s mom poking around asking questions and pulling threads that would only unravel more mess. So the warning was given and received and that was the end of it. Stacy’s mom left. Stacy never came around. And that small piece of the neighborhood remained untouched.

I will say this. In the middle of all that chaos, that was the one decision everyone got right. They kept the poison inside the house. They did not let it spread. And sometimes that is the best you can do when everything else is falling apart. You contain the damage. You draw the line. And you hold it.
